# DeAnna Burt

> Lieutenant General DeAnna M. Burt (USSF, Ret.) served from 2022 to 2025 as Deputy Chief of Space Operations for Operations, Cyber, and Nuclear -- a role she described as the 'chief operating officer' of the United States Space Force. Commissioned in 1992 through Air Force ROTC at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, she built a career centered on space operations, commanding the 2nd Space Operations Squadron, the 460th Operations Group, the 50th Space Wing, and the Combined Force Space Component Command. She transferred into the newly created Space Force in May 2021 as its first woman to hold general-officer rank, and later became the service's first female major general.
